Slightly Buzzed, But Mostly Superstitious… (Sequel to the acclaimed 'Slightly Drunk, But Mostly Enlightened')
I walked through the garage this evening, on the way to my car, headed to an outing alone that could prove as easily disastrous as entertaining. Upon opening the car door I noticed two pennies, both sitting face down, in the drivers seat. This might appear completely innocuous to anyone else. Just some random change that fell out of my pocket while driving. But to me it was an omen.
As I re-read that paragraph I contemplate writing a King-esque horror novel.
I saw those two pennies as a sign. A sign that Skinner’s flight tonight would be even further delayed, or a sign that I was destined to have an awful time at said outing, possibly even that a certain Arkansan female might win the upcoming election. This pessimism comes from years of thinking that a penny picked up heads-up meant good luck, and that (over the years) therefore a penny possessed heads-down meant misfortune. Funny how these things evolve, and become habit.
I summarily took the two pennies (two being even worse luck, presumably, than one) and chucked them under the nearest vehicle (owned by a fat bleach-blonde cunt who would likely dance on my grave given the opportunity). Feeling much better I proceeded to my event, lighter hearted for my averted bad luck-induced disaster. The night went off without a hitch.
As I returned home a couple of hours later I opened the center console, blindly searching for the garage remote in my peripheral vision. Unable to find it, and already stopped at the gate, I glanced down… The first thing my eye happened upon was 4 pennies, all heads-up… the only coins present. I grabbed the remote and clicked it with my usual smirk and an odd satisfaction.
While this story may seem stupid to most, and bordering on senile to the rest, the experience helped me realize something very poignant and also quite relevant to me currently.
That,
No matter how desperate the situation, no matter how dire the circumstance… One always has an ace in the hole. It’s simply a matter of will and desire to find and exploit it.
And when you’re especially lucky… you get 4.

In other news: Still contemplating my “Entropy” topic, should prove quite interesting. Stay tuned.
